Introduction to Whales

Whales are the largest mammal on earth at present which lives in seas and oceans. They are a kind of fish they do not  have gills but lungs to breathe . They sleep with the half mind close and half mind open so that they do not drown.

Where do whales are mostly found

Whales are found almost all of the world’s major oceans, from the Arctic and Antarctic oceans to the tropical waters in and near the equator’s center.

What do whales eat

They eat small plankton and krill which drift with the nutrient rich waters where the whales live. Not all whales eat plankton some whales like Sperm whales, for instance, eat animals like giant squid in the deep waters of the ocean.

Whales and dolphins communicate by using

Toothed whales communicate by using high-frequency clicks and whistles. They use  single click sounds mainly for echolocation while multiple clicks are used to communicate with other whales and even dolphins in the near by area. Baleen whales use low-frequency sounds, and  these sounds can be heard over long distances.

Whales and dolphins are mammals and breathe the air into their lungs, just like humans breathe .They breathe through nostrils, called a blowhole,located on top of their heads. This allows them to take breaths by exposing just the top of their heads to the air while they are swimming or resting under the water.

According to National Geographic, after a whale dies, it’s organs like stomach substances and everything begin to decompose. This causes gases to fill in their body and gets exploded.
